Welcome Spring!
This month, SU has given us a sneak peek from the upcoming big catalog (effective 7/1). They have released 2 new products – Paisley Petals Designer Series Paper (oh sooo yummy… hey, a few of the patterns look like my wallpaper at home!!!) and a new stamp set (Four Frames Stamp Set) that perfectly coordinates with our Decorative Label Punch. We will be using both the paper and stamp set for the project below. Doesn't it look like a wrapped up gift?
The Gift card:
Ya just have to love this ribbon… it so MAKES the project!
Drum roll… the designer paper! As you open the card, can't you already hear music by the suprise inside?
I must say that the first time I saw Skippy Girl, I thought she was cute but really didn't know what to do with her. For Spring Fling (and our March projects), I really wanted to use this stamp set and was really, really challenged to make it work. I just wasn't 'feelin' Skippy Girl. I even thought about using every stamp except Skippy. I somewhat rely on my swaps to provide inspiration for our monthly projects. As the swaps arrived in the mail, I happily anticipated that other experiences stampers would enlighten me to the joys of Skippy Girl. Guess what??? I didn't like her at all after seeing the swaps. I didn't like her any more… it seemed like the swaps with Skippy were even worse than my creative experiments. I now was really NOT liking Skippy. Our March project was okay… good use of the gel pen and that designer paper was very nice. Spring Fling project was again, just okay… the pearls were cute… BUT, wha'cha think of this??? Katrina sent Janice & I an email with a photo of Skippy wearing a petal skirt. OMG, it's darling! FINALLY, a Skippy I like! How cool is it that she's wearing the skirt from the Build A Blossom stamp set (current mini)? We'll use the new Tulip Frame embossing folder for the border, the Elegant Boquet embossing folder and SU's new glass glitter in baja. Notice Skippy girl is carrying a few flowers (hearts?)… ahhh, so sweet. The hearts are from the Pinkng Hearts edge punch. There are more heart flowers in her basket and a few more growing in the weeds. One of the sample cards has all the extra stuff…. the other sample is a bit simple. I will be first to admit, I kept adding more and more to Skippy and loving every addition. In the end, I must say she's a bit overdone, but I love it!
Faux Mother of Pearl – Skippy Girl:
I encourage you to find this metallic paper in the catalog. Ha, we'll make it! This technique is called Faux Mother of Pearl. I can't wait to show you. The possibilities are endless with this technique. Remember the microbeads/sticky tape project – addictive. Remember the candy wrapper/sticky tape project – addictive. Remember water color roses technique – addictive. This Faux Mother of Pearl technique has the same potential. I kept the colors a bit toned down for our Skippy Girl project – but the possibilities are huge with vibrant/deep colors.
Oh my… I didn't mention her skirt! Is that just the cutest or what? Remember how we did the ribbon on sticky tape 2 months ago, this technique is along the same lines…
The ornament punch has been on backorder forever! It is available to order again! I've had this project waiting 'in the wings' for a few months now (it originally had x-mas flowers in it) waiting for the punch to become available. This will be our simple project.
Vase:
I look forward to seeing you!
Happy Stampin!
