September Projects

September 2, 2015

The NEW mini catalog!!!!  …um, I must say it's very nice…  The more I look thru it, the more I find I MUST have.  I'm sure you are finding the same thing.  This month's projects use many new products from the mini catalog.  AND as promised, the projects are not so extreme advanced!

Acorny Thank You Card

Ha… what a fun stamp set name, huh?

How many times do you want to say a sincere Thank You? Were you invited to a friends for dinner? Does your neighbor always do you favors just caz? Does your barista remember your name and your drink!? Your manicurist or hair stylist does she remember your life and ask for updates each visit? We smile and say thank you, but wouldn't it be nice to surprise them with a card with a sweet hand written note?  It doesn't have to be long, a sentence or two will do it.  Imagine how you would feel receiving a card like that in the mail, or if someone pulled it out of their purse and handed it to you as you left.  I find myself smiling. Anyhow, this card might be the perfect card to spring on people that touch your life.

Last month we used a corner rounder to create interest on one of our projects.  The card on the right uses the same technique using the 3 sided punch.

To attach the burlap ribbon we will try SU's new fine tip glue.  The tip is so fine the cap includes a pin to keep the tip clear.  This glue dries clear and hard.  A few glues out there are easy to use but when they dry they are still tacky.  I can't tell you how many times I've ruined a stack of cards by using other glues on sequins or ribbons and the card face sticking to the neighboring card… urgggg…  This new glue is great.  I can't wait for you to give it a try.

Inside art is a nice touch…

All these color combos are unique and fresh for a fall card…

Tree Trunks Embossing Folder Card

The minute I saw this embossing folder I knew I had to have it.  Maybe its because I plan on planting some birch trees and I've been thinking about how pretty they are in summer and winter.  The timing was so right for SU to release this folder.  The folder is versatile for any season, see below for a fall and Christmas version (spring would be bright green leaves and little blue birds).

We will be using Fast Fuse (like snail but stronger) to attach the textured paper.  Usually we would use snail to attach layers of paper, but snail isn't all the effective when attaching textured paper.  Fast Fuse is the answer.  Scroll down to my post on July 29th on Fast Fuse.  Watch that video.  The technique is good for using Fast Fuse AND Snail adhesive.

So Cute Little Red Winter Birds (my very fav card!):

SO!  Bonus Month!!!  Did you notice the coordinating envelope pictured above?  Yep, let's make an envelope.

SU came out with a few punch boards: Gift Box Punch Board and Envelope Punch Board.  Confession… they scare me!  Okay, I tried it… duh, it's soooo easy.  It's so easy that I hope you pull out your watch and time me when I show you how to make them.  Really!  It takes me less than ONE minute to make one (okay, the paper is cut to 8×8)! (notice the pride there??)  My first one took 90 seconds and the last one took 55 seconds.

Another good thing… Do you hoard DSP (if you know what DSP is, you probably hoard it)?  DSP is designer series paper.  This is perfect for using your 5 foot stack of it!!!  It does make a thick envelope though.  I tried using copy paper for an envelope and it works perfect.  Guess what?  SU came out with envelope paper which is exactly the right weight. This tool works for any type of paper you have.

Here is the Envelope Punch Board tool:

Name your card size, this tool can help you make an envelope!

The Reverse Punch is a corner rounder.  See the rounded corners on the flap and center flap?  I look professional, huh?

The tool comes with it's own bone folder and nice rubber feet to hold it in place while you are using the tool.  I have a feeling you'll be as pleased with this Envelope Punch Board as I am.

I look forward to seeing you this month.
